Community in Action: A Strong and Unifying Mobilization of the Community Sector in Vaudreuil-Soulanges

Vaudreuil-Dorion, April 24, 2026 — The Vaudreuil-Soulanges Community Development Corporation (CDC-VS) has issued a positive assessment of the services strike held from March 23 to April 2 as part of the national “Le communautaire à boutte” movement. This initiative helped bring the community’s demands to the forefront: adequate mission-based funding, better working conditions, and recognition of the essential role played by community organizations.

A Deeply Rooted and Sustained Movement

The mobilization in Vaudreuil-Soulanges resulted in strong participation from organizations and significant support from the community:

  • 16 official endorsements through resolutions from municipalities and towns within the MRC
  • 29 community strike mandates filed by member organizations
  • 11 locally organized outreach activities
  • 31 articles and news stories in the region’s media

These actions made it possible to engage the public and bring the community’s concerns to the attention of local and regional authorities.

A movement that extends beyond the region

The involvement of the CDC-VS and the local “Le communautaire à boutte” group in Vaudreuil-Soulanges was also part of a broader collective effort:

  • About 100 people attended the launch of the Socioeconomic Impact Study of the Community Sector on March 25
  • More than 2,000 people attended the regional march in Longueuil on March 27
  • Nearly 10,000 protesters gathered in front of the National Assembly in Quebec City on April 2

Claims Backed by Facts

This mobilization echoes the findings presented inthe Socio-Economic Impact Study of the Community Sector released by the CDC-VS on March 25. The study provides concrete evidence of the essential contribution made by community organizations in the region and lends support to the movement’s demands.

The Next Step in the Movement

Although the service strike has ended, the “Le communautaire à boutte” movement continues. The work to recognize, adequately fund, and promote the community sector continues.
