Vaudreuil-Dorion, March 23, 2026 – Starting today and continuing through April 2, 2026, a large number of community organizations in Vaudreuil-Soulanges are participating in a service strike as part of the “Le communautaire à boutte” movement. This mobilization condemns chronic underfunding and calls for sustainable, mission-driven investments.
Across the region, organizations support thousands of residents every year. Their ability to act is undermined by insufficient funding, despite rapidly growing needs. This local mobilization is part of a broader movement across Quebec, confirming that these issues extend far beyond a single region.
Community organizations play a key role in housing, food security, social inclusion, and local services, often in areas where public services are no longer sufficient.
“Community organizations are already filling a gap in the social safety net, but if our demands fall on deaf ears, some organizations will have to close permanently, and that will create permanent gaps in service,” says Andréanne Poulin-Lavigne, executive director of COMQUAT and spokesperson for the local committee.
Many organizations in the region have been authorized to go on a service strike. As a result, some services will be reduced or suspended in order to put pressure on decision-makers.
“Of course, our protest tactics will have an impact on the public, but we’ve tried other approaches in the past and they didn’t work,” the spokesperson noted.
Key Demands for Quebec’s Future
Throughout Quebec, community organizations play an essential role in maintaining the social safety net and addressing growing needs amid increasing precariousness. However, without stable and adequate funding, their ability to act is compromised. Through the “Le communautaire à boutte” movement, organizations in Quebec are calling for:
· Decent working conditions for community workers;
· Funding commensurate with the mission;
· Full and complete recognition of organizations;
· Protecting autonomy and ending precarious funding;
· A clear commitment to investing in the community model as a strategic pillar.
“We are calling on the Quebec government to make clear and long-term financial commitments. We also urge all political parties to take a public stance and clarify their commitments to the community sector,” said Sophie Tétrault-Martel, co-spokesperson.
Across Quebec, more than 1,600 organizations are taking action. The movement’s national co-spokespersons—Mathieu Gélinas, Caroline Chartier, and Sophie Tétrault-Martel—appeared on *Tout le monde en parle* yesterday, Sunday ( To watch the interview).
